Arizona is home to a number of retirees, and even more snowbirds who split their time between north and south. However, until recently, Florida has enjoyed top billing at a prime retirement location. You are forgiven, then, if you are surprised by the latest ranking according to a new report by GOBankingRates, The most popular up-and-coming retirement destination isn’t The Villages — or any city in Florida, for that matter. Drumroll please...
The top up-and-coming retirement hotspot is Goodyear, Arizona!
According to the finance website, Goodyear ranks No. 1 because the city has exploded with a 61% increase in the population of retirement-age residents (ages 65+) in the last half-decade. The total population consisted of approximately 18% retirement-aged residents in 2022.
Goodyear isn't the only Arizona community to make the Top 10. Peoria was also recognized at #8 on the list, as the population of retirement-age people increased by 40% in the past five years. With a total population of retirement-aged residents at 19% in 2022, Peoria is a popular destination for retirees.
